CAMPGROUNDS
The opportunities for camping in New England are almost unlimited. Below are listed agencies to contact for information on campgrounds. You can also pick up information on campgrounds at all information centers along the major highways. If you are interested in backcountry sites, consult a guide book.
Campgrounds tend to fill up rapidly on weekends. Private campgrounds will take reservations while the state will not. The US Forest Service does accept reservations at some campgrounds for a limited number of sites, usually at twice the rate. Their number for sites is a toll free number, so have all your information on the campground beforehand. The number is 800-283-CAMP (2267) or look at Reserve USA (National Recreation Reservation Service).
Commercial campgrounds can be found at the Northeast Campground Association.
